FROM MY MAILBOX- SHOULD I REMOVE THE HIJAB

Salam aleykum Umm. My name is Salma and I stay in Lagos. I came across your blog just yesterday. I want you and your readers to give their opinion on a matter. I just got a job after a few years of graduation. Unfortunately for me, my employer is asking me to desist from coming to the office with my hijab. In as much as I don't want to compromise my faith, I always remember how hard and long it took me to get this job. I am confused. Should I abide till I am able to convince them that the hijab will not prevent me from working optimally? Or should I forget about the job? Thank you.

***a friend and I had a similar experience in the same Lagos. It can be very traumatic and challenging. Dear readers, do drop your advice to her in the comments section. This same problem is faced by the lot of muslimahs in Nigeria. May Allah have mercy. Ameen

  6. Walaikum salam! Warahmatullah! Wallahu A'lam buh if u dnt mind what's d nature of the job and is the organization private or govt owned nd perhaps is d manager a muslim or from d oda divide?.... D motive of askin u all these is dah .... If it was not stated in their code of conduct, words against ur deen and perhaps if d manager is a xtian! My advice to you is dah if the victimization nd stigmatization is getting unaffordable... Just in the name of protecting ur deen nd your dignity continue with d job and seek other job in other places! Verily! Allah sees ur position / intention on the issue..........ma'salam

  8. salam alaykum, sister, i really feel your pain, cos i also had a similar experience, but Alhamdulillahi, i have a muslim as a boss now.
well, i believe its might seem a hard decision but if you put your faith in Allah things become easy cos Allah will not place on u a burden more than you can bear.
you need to decide whether u want to please THE CREATOR OR THE CREATION.
just take this as a test from Allah and pray alot, and i believe Allah will bestow upon u a job way staggering than you could ever have thought of.
i would advice you discuss with your boss to know how the hijab would affect his organisation, but if he keeps on insisting, then i advice you dont accept the offer.
life is too short to waste it striving to please d creation.
if its meant for you, no one will take it away from you.
