PREPARING FOR RAMADAN

As we gradually count down to the blessed month of Ramadaan, I pray Allah preserves our lives to witness the glorious month and also beyond it. And may He let us benefit from all the blessings replete in the month. Ameen.

There are several preparations towards this glorious month, stocking the fridge, visiting friends and families. But the most important preparation is our spiritual readiness for this month. Are we indeed ready for this month? Is our current spiritual state a great pointer to the fact that we will reap the benefits of the season.?

I am talking to myself as well as to the array of fervent Muslims who need a jolt to remind them that this day is close and that we need to prepare our spiritual minds to absorb the reality. It's upon us already and there is no postponing it.

I have one or two tips I regularly employ when the month is close, I hope it will be of benefit to you as it is to me.

1 First of all, I put myself in a conscious state of readiness. As we all know that everything we do starts from the mind, I ensure I repeatedly note the mantra in my head, 'Ramadan is coming, the month of mercy and forgiveness is here'.

2 After my mind has been placed in the pedestal I want it. I proceed to put the first hadith of an- Nawawi into practice. The first hadith is that all actions shall be judged according to intention. In line with this, I decide within myself to fast during the month and attain Allah's mercy and be among those who have gained righteousness. This decision is important, because fasting is void without the intention to do so. While some school of thought are of the opinion that the intention should be made before every fast of the day, other schools posit that making the intention once preceeding the month is sufficient, and Allah knows best.

3. Thirdly, I begin to pray for strength and the will to be consistent during this month. It's so easy to deviate after the excitement of witnessing the month fades. We begin to get bored and tired. My prayer remains that Allah should give me the ability to utilize every day of the month. No one day during the month is any less important than the other. So I ensure i don't give lethargy a chance. It's just 30days.. with one day which is better than a thousand months. Ah. Ahuzubillah.

4. Another thing I do to make making dua easier is to write my prayer points down. I don't want to forget to pray for my dear friend, or for a particular thing, so I write them down and consult in the course of making dua. I still have the list from 2 Ramadans ago.  This list will also come in handy during the search for Laila til Qadr, because give or take you have over three days to make fervent prayers, we won't want to miss making a particular request when you eventually get the night of Qadr.

5. Here, I start doing methodical actions. E.g, fervent recitation of the Quran,   minding my Salat Etc while these are acts that should form the basis of a Muslim's life, there is no harm in intensifying the effort.

Do you have any tips of your own? How do you prepare for Ramadan? Be kind and share your tips. Who knows, it might come in handy for someone. And you will also earn rewards in sha Allah.

In addition to the above, its best we also prepare a timetable for our Quran recitation, especially for those of us who are working or engaged in one thing or the other.
Because if we don't prepare towards Quran recitation and stick with our highlighted timetable,we wl discover @ d end of ramadan, that we were unable to achieve as much as expected.
Then its also advisable that we have a food timetable, particularly the working sisters,so that we don't keep thinking and thinking as to the next meal to prepare.
If we have a programme, then we can easily prepare for the nextday a night ahead.
May اللَّه make it easy on us
