EID 'L ADHA!!! SENT IN BY ABDULGAFAR BALOGUN

The Day of Eid-ul-Adha
By E-Islam Team
The Day of Eid ul Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) is an important occasion celebrated by Muslims globally on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah to honour the willingness of ʾIbrāhīm (Abraham)(peace be upon him)  to sacrifice his son Ismā'īl (Ishmael)(pbuh) as an act of obedience to Allah Ta’ala, before Allah Ta’ala intervened to provide him with a sheep to sacrifice instead.
It reminds us how obedience to our Lord Allah Ta’ala is the answer to everything. This means surrendering your life, your whole being, all that you are, all that you have and all that you identify with to and only for Allah Ta’ala.
When you sacrifice everything that you identify with to Allah, He gives to you your authentic and eternal self. That is the spiritual “secret” so many of us seek. Both Eid-ul-Adha and Hajj serve as a special occasion that definitely gets one in touch with this “secret”.
Eid-ul-Adha is a day on which a Muslim should bring himself or herself closer to Allah by means of doing good deeds—such as Prayers, Qurbani(sacrifice),caring for the poor and the needy, visiting the sick people, helping those who are in need and refraining from evil practices such harming people and severing ties of kinship.
In short, `Eid Al-Adha is a model for the Muslim community which maintains love, care, brotherhood and sisterhood, beauty, and solidarity. `Eid has significant social, educational, devotional, and spiritual messages that Muslims should grasp and translate into a complete way of life.

SUNNAH (practices of The Noble Messenger of Allah-peace be upon him)
ON THE DAY OF EID-UL ADHA

  • To rise as early as possible
  • To make Ghusl (Take a bath)
  • To use the Miswaak (brush our teeth)
  • To apply Itr (perfume)
  • To wear one's best clothes (not necessarily new), ensuring that it conforms with Sharia (Islamic code of dressing)
  • For Eid-ul-Adha is like Eid-ul-Fitr in every sense except for that in Eid-ul-Adha it is desirable not to eat anything before prayer, if you have eaten then there is no harm
  • To go to the 'Eid Gah' (Place of Eid Prayer) as early as possible.
  • To perform Eid Salaat on the 'Eid Gah' rather than the Masjid. There is no harm for aged and the sick to perform their Eid Salaat in the Masjid. Rain is also an excuse for performing Eid Salaat in the Masjid.
  • To choose a separate route when returning from the Eid Gah.
  • To walk to the Eid Gah. However, there is no harm in using any means of conveyance if the Eid Gah is a distance away.
  • Recite the following takbir in abundance:
Allahu-Akbar, Allahu-Akbar. La ila-ha ill-lallah.Allahu-Akbar, Allahu-Akbar. Wa-lilahill hamd. (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. There is no god but Allah. Allah is Greatest, Allah is Greatest. And all praises are for Allah)

MASHA ALLAH. ALHAMDULILAH. MAY ALLAH PRESERVE US TO WITNESS THIS EID AND MORE !
EID MUBARAK MY DEAR FAITHFUL READERS. MAY ALLAH ANSWER OUR PRAYERS. AMEEN.

Destination the Hereafter - Have you packed your suitcases? - Sent by ALIYYAH BOLARINWA

Please read this too! preparation is key! please read and be inspired. Jazakillahu khairan to my dear Aliyyah Bolarinwa

..."Dad was now becoming more worried about me. I've never cried like that before"...
Her cheeks were worn and sunken and her skin hugged her bones. That didn't stop her though; you could never catch her not reciting Quran. Always vigil in her personal prayer room Dad had set up for her. Bowing, prostrating, raising her hands in prayer. That was the way she was from dawn to sunset and back again, boredom was for others.
As for me I craved nothing more than fashion magazines and novels. I treated myself all the time to videos until those trips to the rental place became my trademark. As they say, when something becomes habit people tend to distinguish you by it. I was negligent in my responsibilities and laziness characterized my Salah.

One night, I turned the video off after a marathon three hours of watching. The azaan softly rose in that quiet night. I slipped peacefully into my blanket.

Her voice carried from her prayer room. "Yes? Would you like anything Norah?"
With a sharp needle she popped my plans. 'Don't sleep before you pray Fajar!'
"Agh ... there's still an hour before Fajar, that was only the first azaan!"

With those loving pinches of hers, she called me closer. She was always like that, even before the fierce sickness shook her spirit and shut her in bed. 'Hanan can you come sit beside me.'

I could never refuse any of her requests, you could touch the purity and sincerity. "Yes, Norah?"
'Please sit here.'
"OK, I'm sitting. What's on your mind?"

With the sweetest mono voice she began reciting:
[Every soul shall taste death and you will merely be repaid your earnings on Resurrection Day{3:185}]

She stopped thoughtfully. Then she asked, 'Do you believe in death?'
"Of course I do."
'Do you believe that you shall be responsible for whatever you do, regardless of how small or large?'
"I do, but . Allah is Forgiving and Merciful and I've got a long life waiting for me."

'Stop it Hanan ... aren't you afraid of death and it's abruptness? Look at Hind. She was younger than you but she died in a car accident. So did so and so, and so and so. Death is age-blind and your age could never be a measure of when you shall die.'

The darkness of the room filled my skin with fear. "I'm scared of the dark and now you made me scared of death, how am I supposed to go to sleep now. Norah, I thought you promised you'd go with us on vacation during the summer break."

Impact. Her voice broke and her heart quivered. 'I might be going on a long trip this year Hanan, but somewhere else. Just maybe. All of our lives are in Allah's hands and we all belong to Him.'

My eyes welled and the tears slipped down both cheeks.

I pondered my sisters grizzly sickness, how the doctors had informed my father privately that there was not much hope that Norah was going to outlive the disease. She wasn't told though. Who hinted to her? Or was it that she could sense the truth.

'What are you thinking about Hanan?' Her voice was sharp. 'Do you think I am just saying this because I am sick? Uh - uh. In fact, I may live longer than people who are not sick. And you Hanan, how long are you going to live? Twenty years, maybe? Forty? Then what?' Through the dark she reached for my hand and squeezed gently. 'There's no difference between us; we're all going to leave this world to live in Paradise or agonize in Hell.
I left my sister's room dazed, her words ringing in my ears: "May Allah guide you Hanan - don't forget your prayer."

Eight O'clock in the morning. Pounding on my door. I don't usually wake up at this time. Crying. Confusion. O Allah, what happened?

Norah's condition became critical after Fajar, they took her immediately to the hospital ... Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un....this is what Norah always said to say if she died.

There wasn't going to be any trips this summer. It was written that I would spend the summer at home., i could feel it.

At hospital....
It was one O'clock in the afternoon. Mother phoned the hospital. 'Yes. You can come and see her now.' Dad's voice had changed, mother could sense something had gone deathly wrong. We left immediately.

Where was that avenue I used to travel and thought was so short? Why was it so long now, so very long. Where was the cherished crowd and traffic that would give me a chance to gaze left and right. Everyone, just move out of our way. Mother was shaking her head in her hands - crying - as she made du'a for her Norah.

We arrived at the hospitals main entrance.

One man was moaning, another was involved in an accident and a third's eyes were iced, you couldn't tell if he was alive or dead.

We skipped stairs to Norah's floor. She was in intensive care.

The nurse approached us. 'Let me take you to her.' As we walked down the aisles the nurse went on expressing how sweet a girl Norah was. She reassured Mother somewhat that Norah's condition had gotten better than what it was in the morning.

'Sorry. No more than one visitor at a time.' This was the intensive care unit. Through the small window in the door and past the flurry of white robes I caught my sisters eyes. Mother was standing beside her. After two minutes, mother came out unable to control her crying.

'You may enter and say Salaam to her on condition that you do not speak too long,' they told me. 'Two minutes should be enough.'

"How are you Norah? You were fine last night sister, what happened?"
We held hands, she squeezed harmlessly. 'Even now, Alhamdulillah, I'm doing fine.'
"Alhamdulillah ... but ... your hands are so cold."

I sat on her bedside and rested my fingers on her knee. She jerked it away.
"Sorry ... did I hurt you?" "No, it is just that I remembered Allah's words [One leg will be wrapped to the other leg (in the death shroud)]
... Hanan pray for me. I may be meeting the first day of the hereafter very soon. It is a long journey and I haven't prepared enough good deeds in my suitcase.'

A tear escaped my eye and ran down my cheek at her words. I cried and she joined me. The room blurred away and left us - two sisters - to cry together. Rivulets of tears splashed down on my sister's palm, which I held with both hands. Dad was now becoming more worried about me. I've never cried like that before.

At home and upstairs in my room, I watched the sun pass away with a sorrowful day. Silence mingled in our corridors. A cousin came in my room, another. The visitors were many and all the voices from downstairs stirred together.
Only one thing was clear at that point ... Norah had died!

I stopped distinguishing who came and who went. I couldn't remember what they said. O Allah, where was I? What was going on? I couldn't even cry anymore.

Later that week they told me what had happened. Dad had taken my hand to say goodbye to my sister for the last time, I had kissed Norah's head.

I remember only one thing though, seeing her spread on that bed, the bed that she was going to die on. I remembered the verse she recited: [One leg will be wrapped to the other leg (in the death shroud){75:29}] and I knew too well the truth of the next verse: [The drive on that day we be to your Lord (Allah)!{75:30}]

I tiptoed into her prayer room that night. Staring at the quiet dressers and silenced mirrors, I treasured who it was that had shared my mother's stomach with me. Norah was my twin sister.
I remembered who I had swapped sorrows with. Who had comforted my rainy days. I remembered who had prayed for my guidance and who had spent so many tears for so many long nights telling me about death and accountability. May Allah save us all.

Tonight is Norah's first night that she shall spend in her tomb. O Allah, have mercy on her and illumine her grave. This was her Quran, her prayer mat and .and this was the spring rose-colored dress that she told me she would hide until she got married, the dress she wanted to keep just for her husband.

I remembered my sister and cried over all the days that I had lost. I prayed to Allah to have mercy on me, accept me and forgive me. I prayed to Allah to keep her firm in her grave, as she always liked to mention in her supplications.

At that moment, I stopped. I asked myself: what if it was I who had died? Where would I be moving on to? Fear pressed me and the tears began all over again.

The first azaan rose softly from the Masjid, how beautiful it sounded this time. I felt calm and relaxed as I repeated the Muadhins call. I wrapped the shawl around my shoulders and stood to pray Fajar. I prayed as if it was my last prayer, a farewell prayer, just like Norah had done yesterday. It had been her last Fajar.

Now and insha' Allah for the rest of my life, if I awake in the mornings I do not count on being alive by evening, and in the evening I do not count on being alive by morning.

We are all going on Norah's journey - what have we prepared for it?

My sister has already left on this eternal journey? Have YOU & I packed our suitcases?

Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar R.A says that someone asked the Prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) which man is the wisest. The Prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said that; the one who remembers death much and is ever engaged in making preparation for it.These are the men who have become masters of this world and the next. Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar R.A. says that the Prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) putting his hand on his shoulder, said that they should spend life like a traveller. He forbode to wait for the morning in the evening and for evening in the morning. He advised to accumulate the prayers when he is healthy; keeping the period of illness in mind and should do something good for the death when he is ill. Hazrat Shaddad bin Aus(R.A.) says that the Prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) has said that the alert man is one; who takes account of his life and does alot of good actions; which may be useful to him after death. (TIRMIZI)

OH MUSLIMS! BEWARE! THIS IS NOT FROM YOUR RELIGION by OLAGUNJU SHERRIFDEEN

Salam aleykum! Been a while, please you all need to read this explosive piece!

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficient, the Merciful

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I bear witness that there is no one worthy of worship except Him. I testify that Muhammad, sallaLahu alaihi wasallam is His
Messenger and Apostle. May Allah shower his blessings upon him, his household, the Companions and the Taabi'een and those that follow their path until the day of resurrection

Indeed, the best of speeches is that of Allah. The best of guidance is the one provided by the Prophet, sollaLohu 'alaihi wasallam. The worst acts are the ones innovated in the deen. All innovations are misguidance and all misguidance is Hell-fire. May Allah save us from this.

"And we shall test you with sth of fear food n loss of wealth.. Q2v 155"
(Till d end)

Femi Fani-Kayode wrote

"When someone says that God is the author of fatal crashes you know that it is
not the same God that we worship as that person. It is the devil that causes accidents and kills people and not God. You can say that a fatal accident is an act of God only if the devil is your god"

Subhaana Allaah!

Brothers and sisters, I decided to call our attention to this, because I am sure a lot of muslims will get to read this and potentially get misguided. If that is what  Femi Fani-Kayode learns from his religion No problem (that's his problem) but muslims should be careful for these statements opposes the aqeedah of a muslim.

Imam Ahmad ibn Hambal(rahimahullah) in his treatise
"Usool As-Sunnah" wrote and I quote

"wa min As-sunnati Al-laazimati aleti man taraka minha khaslatan lam yaqbaluha, wa yu'minubiha, lam yakun min Ahliha"

"And from the sunnah(islam) are issues that are Emphatic(important) that anyone who leaves any part of it, has not accepted sunnah(islam) and he has not believed it and he is not from its people"

And the first of the points the Imam(rahimahullah) raised was

"Al eeman bil'Qadari Khayrihi wa sharihi wa at-tasdiiqi bil haadith feehi, wal eeman biha, La yuqal Lima? Wa Laa kayf? Innama huwa at-tasdiiqi wal eeman biha.

"Belief in devine pre-ordainment of Allah, The good ones and those we percive as evil, and affirming the haadith about it, and believing in it, and not to say:Why? Or How? Verily it is Affirming and believing in it."

And the evidence for this is as  Allah informed us of this in the Qur'an:

[Verily, we have created everything in (predetermined) measure.] Qur'an 54/49

[And there is nothing whatsoever but that its reserves are with us, and we do not send it down except in known measure.] Qur'an 15/21

[No calamity strikes in the earth nor in your selves but that was in a book since before We created it (i.e. the event). That is easy for Allah.] Qur'an 57/22

[No calamity strikes except with the permission of Allah.] Qur'an 64/11

[Say: Nothing will befall us except what Allah had decreed for us, He is our protecting Ally, and upon Allah let the believers depend.] Qur'an 9/51

And evidence from the sunnah is from the popular Lenghty which was reported by AbdulLlah ibn Umar from his father Umar Ibn khattab (will try to quote only the needed portion),  which is in the popular book by  Imam an-Nawawi  Arbaeena Nawawiyyah, where Jubril (Alaihi salam)was said to have asked

"Inform me about Eeman (faith)." He (the Messenger of Allah) answered, "It is that you believe in Allah and His angels and His Books and His Messengers and in the Last Day, and in Divide pre-ordainment (qadar), both in its good and in its evil aspects." He said, and he "You have spoken truly

This further emphasizes that the belief in Qadar is from the pillars of eeman, something which if faulty could mean nullification of ones Islam as a whole. I imlplore us all Ikwhan to take out time and learn our religion fundamentally as understood by those who where there when it was revealed understood it and as been passed down over time by its pious adherents(The salaf salih) so as to be protected from the ranting of those who themselves have as their guides nothing, be it from within the fold of Islam or outside it, for with the religion of Allah alone is success.

NB- It is important to know that the ideology FFK has preached above is the ideology of Zoroastrians(The fire worshippers) who believe in two gods  Ahura Mazda (Illuminating Wisdom who they believe is the source of all good) and Angra Mainyu (Destructive Spirit the source of all evil). HARMATTAN DESCENDS; KEEPING YOUR INFANT WARM

All Bing images
Slowly and surely, the blessed weather changes and Harmattan is upon us already. This season is characterized by dry, flaky and itchy skin, sore throat, cracked feet, numb fingers, runny nose and common cough. To all the Ummus and Abus, the concern is how to ensure that our babies do not contract any ailment that seem to constantly persist in this period. You will all agree with me that it's not a pretty experience when babies and infants develop colds and are in discomfort. As adults, we can adequately manage ourselves to ensure we are comfortable, same cannot be said of our kids, whose aim most times is to disengage themselves from the blanket used in covering them at night.

THE MANY DOORS OF JANNAH

And those who feared their Lord will be led to the Garden in crowds, until behold, they arrive there. Its gates will be opened, and its keepers will say: 'Peace be upon you! You have done well! Enter here, to dwell therein.' (Quran 39:73)

Masha Allah, sometimes our faith skyrockets such that nothing feels impossible to do. And at other times, we feel so low spiritually that all that matters is fulfilling the performance of the five daily prayers and resting... at either times, the thoughts of the beauty of aljannah is enough motivation, enough ginger to make us better Muslims than we already are... even better than we thought we could ever be. oh, the beauty of Jannah, who wouldn't want to be there? Happiness unquantified, peace unparralled, enjoyment galore. Such beauty that Allah has prepared for those who believe and do right that the eyes have never seen, the ears have never heard and even our thoughts have never imagined! ALLAHU AKBAR! ALLAHU AKBAR!

The Pain of Discipline

It was one of those weekday mornings when I had to wake up earlier than usual to practice my

Arabic and Quran before going to work. I woke up and all I wanted to do was sleep!, sleep!! and

sleep!!!. I laid there thinking why do I have to do this, “torture” myself by depriving myself of sleep.

For a couple of minutes, I laid down debating “should I”, “should I not” and gave myself every

reason why I should just go back to bed and forget about practising anything.

READER'S CONTRIBUTION; OUR WORLD TODAY BY OLAGUNJU SHERRIFDEEN

Nothing has plagued the Muslim Ummah today more than inferiority complex. A man is shy to identify with his Islamic culture, we are a nation of Eeman, of Tawheed, of best possible morals, our teacher is the most perfect human, Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم, yet we suffer a complex? The Ummah's biggest enemy is a concept, and that's the concept of identity crisis. We simply dread being rejected by our peers, so we follow the crowd even if it's contrary to the path of righteousness.

READER'S CONTRIBUTION: LOVE FOR THE SAKE OF ALLAH BY OLAGUNJU SHERRIFDEEN

Asalaam aleykum all. Read, share and enjoy this exceptionally enlightening piece from one of our dear readers. Olagunju Sherrifdeen is a graduate of engineering from the University of Osun. May Allah increase his knowledge. Ameen.

Abû Hurayrah relates that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Allah will ask on the Day of Judgment: ‘Where are those who loved each other for the sake of My glory? Today, - on a day when there is no shade but mine – I shall shade them with My shade.” [Sahîh Muslim (2566)]

Love is among the most exalted of human feelings. When this love is focused on Allah and forms the basis for our interpersonal relationships, many problems are transcended, and great fruits are harvested for society as a whole. The Qur’ân and Sunnah often speak about the noble status of those whom Allah graces to possess such love.

THE REFUTATION OF ATHEISM

Asalaam aleykum. This is yet another lovely piece sent to me from Islam info by Abu Habeebah. JazakAllah. Please read, drop your comments and share!

Refutation of Atheism

"....The chance that higher life forms might have emerged in this way (by coincidence) is comparable with the chance that a tornado sweeping through a junk-yard might assemble a Boeing 747 from the materials therein....."
Millions of plant and animal types present in the world stand out as evidence that prove the existence and might of our Creator. All of these living beings, a limited number of which will be described as examples here, deserve to be examined individually. They all have different body systems, diverse defence tactics, unique ways of feeding, and interesting reproduction methods. Unfortunately, it is not possible to describe all living beings with all their features in a single book. Encyclopaedias of many volumes would not be enough for this task. However, even the few examples we will discuss here will be sufficient to prove that life on earth can in no way be explained by coincidences or accidental happenings.

HEALTH ISSUES IN RAMADAN

FOOD, NUTRITION IN RAMADAN

Apart from ensuring optimum spiritual activity, the holy month of Ramadan also enables us detoxify and essentially give our bodies the rest it needs. Remember that we spend 11 months eating and drinking 2/4/7 and anytime we desire, in effect, our livers, guts etc are always performing one activity or the other. So this month is such a blessing to us in several different ways Masha Allah. Alhamdulilah.

Though our sense of nutrition has been blurred by the numerous culinary options available, researchers have continually found immense benefits in the food items recommended to us over 1400 years ago. I'll proceed now to highlight some of these foods and I hope we choose to incorporate them into our daily meals, because there is nothing that has been recommended to us but that it has immense benefits. In sha Allah.

May Allah answer all our prayers.. Ameen.

Veil: the View From the Inside
By Nakata Khaula
Do Muslim Women Have Rights?
Anyone whose sole source of knowledge about Islam has been the Western media, "knows" that Islam "oppresses" women. The hijab or veil, is the symbol of such "oppression." To "liberate" Muslim women from such "oppression" has been the cherished goal of media pundits, Western "experts" on Islam, and the feminists.

RAMADAN!!! THINGS THAT DO AND DO NOT BREAK THE FAST

In the desire to achieve the best out of Ramadaan, we fret and worry about our actions and how they affect our fast. This posts seeks to put to rest many of such fears and also highlight the things that break the fast, and the things that do not. In sha Allah.

THINGS THAT NULLIFY THE FAST COMPLETELY

  • Deliberately eating or drinking
  • Having Sexual intercourse
  • Intentionally vomiting
  • Not having the intention to fast

HADITH OF THE MOMENT

In Sahih Al Bukhari and Sahih Muslim it is narrated from Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah SAW said, "Avoid the seven sins that dooms a person to Hell."

These are ; Associating others with Allah, witchcraft, killing a soul whom Allah has forbidden killing, except in cases required by Islamic law, consuming riba, consuming the orphan's wealth, running away from the battlefield, and slandering chaste and innocent believing women.

STORIES FROM THE QURAN : HARUT AND MARUT; CONCLUDED

Narrated Ibn Jarir: I was told by Muhammad Ibn`Abdel A`la As-San`ani that he was told by Al-Mu`tamir Ibn Sulaiman who said: I heard ` Imran Ibn Jarir who narrated from Abu Majliz as saying: Sulaiman (Peace be upon him) took from every living creature a covenant. So when any person gets afflicted with anything, he (Sulaiman) asks Allah with that covenant and the person recovers. Unfortunately, the people added to this sorcery and magic and said: this is what Sulaiman Ibn Dawud used to act upon. Thereupon, Allah the Almighty revealed His Saying: {They followed what the Shayatin (devils) gave out (falsely of the magic) in the lifetime of Sulaiman (Solomon). Sulaiman did lot disbelieve, but the Shayatin (devils) disbelieved, teaching men magic and such things that came town at Babylon to the two angels, Harut and Marut but neither of these two (angels) taught anyone (such things) till they had said, "We are only for trial, so disbelieve not (by learning this magic from us)." And from these (angels) people earn that by which they cause separation between man and his wife, but they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah's Leave. And they learn that which harms them and profits them not. And indeed they knew that the buyers of it (magic) would have no share in the Hereafter. And how bad indeed was that for which they sold their own selves, if they but knew}.

STORIES FROM THE QURAN : HARUT AND MARUT, CONTINUED

As-Sadiy said: Allah's Saying: {They followed what the Shayatin (devils) gave out (falsely of the magic) in the lifetime of Sulaiman (Solomon). Sulaiman did not disbelieve, but the Shayatin (devils) disbelieved}, i.e. the devils used to listen stealthily to the talks of the angels concerning what happens to those on earth: death, unseen matters or divine ordainments. Then, they come down to inspire the soothsayers with it and the latter would tell the people with it. The people believe in them and regard them trustworthy. Time after time, the soothsayers trusted the devils who later on used to add to each word one-hundred lies of their own. The people started to write down these matters and it circulated among the Children of Israel that the Jinn know the Unseen. Sulaiman moved quickly and gathered all these writings and put them in a chest and buried it under his throne. All the devils who tried to even approach the chest were burnt alive. Sulaiman declared that he would behead anyone who claims that the devils know the Unseen. After Sulaiman's death and that of the godly-scholars who knew it well, a devil came in the form of a human being to the people and said: I will lead you to an everlasting treasure that will never run out. He ordered them to dig under Sulaiman's throne and he took a side. He said to them: kill me if you find nothing. They dug it and found these writings. Thereupon, the devil said: Only with this magic, Sulaiman could overcome mankind, the Jinn and birds. Then, he flew away. It was rumored and circulated that Sulaiman had been a sorcerer. The Children of Israel kept these writings and disputed with Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) regarding them. But Allah the Almighty revealed to him His Saying: {They followed what the Shayatin (devils) gave out (falsely of the magic) in the lifetime of Sulaiman (Solomon). Sulaiman did not disbelieve, but the Shayatin (devils) disbelieved}.

STORIES FROM THE QURAN - HARUT AND MARUT

....continued from last time, and culled from Ibn Kathir's Stories in the Quran.

2. Harut and Marut

Allah the Almighty says:

{They followed what the Shayatin (devils) gave out (falsely of the magic) in the lifetime of Sulaiman (Solomon). Sulaiman did not disbelieve, but the Shayatin (devils) disbelieved, teaching men magic and such things that came down at Babylon to the two angels, Harut and Marut but neither of these two (angels) taught anyone (such things) till they had said, "We are only for trial, so disbelieve not (by learning this magic from us). "And from these (angels) people learn that by which they cause separation between man and his wife, but they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah's Leave. And they learn that which harms them and profits them not. And indeed they knew that the buyers of it (magic) would have no share in the Hereafter. And how bad indeed was that for which they sold their own selves, if they but knew. And if they had believed and guarded themselves from evil and kept their duty to Allah, far better would have been the reward from their Lord, if they but knew!}. (Al-Baqarah, 102, 103)

PREPARING FOR RAMADAN

As we gradually count down to the blessed month of Ramadaan, I pray Allah preserves our lives to witness the glorious month and also beyond it. And may He let us benefit from all the blessings replete in the month. Ameen.

There are several preparations towards this glorious month, stocking the fridge, visiting friends and families. But the most important preparation is our spiritual readiness for this month. Are we indeed ready for this month? Is our current spiritual state a great pointer to the fact that we will reap the benefits of the season.?

TEMPLATES AND SETTINGS CHANGED

Salam aleykum,
I am very grateful and glad to all of you who always make up time to view my blog, comment and share with friends. You have no idea how kind to me you all have been.

Unfortunately however, some readers have expressed concern that they do not see the text of my articles nor are they able to comment. I think this is a setting problem and I have decided to change the templates of the blog. I really hope the changes I expect have been effected. I hope you will help me address this concern by commenting on whether you are able to view and comment well.

I appreciate you all. You have no idea.

READER'S CONTRIBUTION:WHY WE NEVER MOVE FORWARD BY OLOSO SHUKRAH

Here is a very thought provoking contribution from one of our ardent readers, Shukrah Oloso. She is a Barrister and currently doing her Masters in International  Law at the University of Ibadan. Please enjoy.

I was in the LLM class on a fateful Friday waiting for our revered professor of International Law and Practice of Human Rights like my other colleagues and looking forward to another riveting, educating, exciting and stimulating lecture…we were supposed to have a seminar presentation on the ‘‘AFRICAN STATE FORMATION AND THE HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION’’ but before the group could start their presentation, the Prof started “lamenting and reiterating” with a heavy heart that “WHY ARE AFRICAN LEADERS SO SUSCEPTIBLE TO CORRUPTION?” he didn’t allow any one answer before he continued and lamented again and asked another question “ WHY DO AFRICAN LEADERS STEAL MONEY THEY CANNOT TAKE TO THE GRAVE WHILE THE MASSES ARE SERIOUSLY SUFFERING?” this renowned expert in human rights continued on and on and we realized he didn’t intend for anyone to answer the question to be answered but was just bothered about the situations undergoing of the country and Africa in general.

RAMADAN IS COMING!! KNOW YOUR OPTIONS!!

My friend, Kawthar, asked me to publish a post on those who are exempted from fasting the obligatory fast of Ramadan, and I felt it was a most welcome idea considering the approach of Ramadan, Masha Allah. Fasting during the month of Ramadan is fard, and it's one of the pillars of Islam. Allah commanded In Q2:183 "O you who believe, fasting has been prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may attain taqwa"

WHAT'S YOUR ISLAMIC BIRTHDAY?

Every 17th of Dhul Hijjah, I wake up to birthday texts from my mum. My siblings also receive a notification from her that the day was my birthday and they shouldn't forget to send me a wish. To her, every 17th dhulhijjah is my birthday and she cares less about the gregorian equivalent. She maintains that as Muslims we should not do away with our identity, and in as much as our certificates bear the gregorian dates, we should nonetheless know our Islamic dates and celebrate same. Thanks to her calculations and timely reminders, even spouses aren't spared, we are all conversant with our dates.

How about you? Do you know your Islamic birthday? Let the comments flow!

HAVE YOU WRITTEN YOUR WASSIYYAH?? (WILL)

In as much as the topic of death brings a sour taste in the mouth of every human being, it is a reality that cannot be wished away. We are assured that kulli nafsi za'ikatil maut (Al Imran :185), every soul shall taste death. No one wants to die now, but it will happen. Our prayer is that Allah bestows on us His mercy so that we gain entry into His Jannah. Ameen.

YOUR COMMENTS MEAN A LOT

Salam aleykum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh!   How are you all, my blog family? I hope fine. I want to tell a little story. You see, when I created this blog, I wanted it to be different, a breath of fresh air, as the byline announces, this blog is not only about fashion or food or sermons, I decided to infuse a lot of different things into it, Islam, lifestyle. It's a total package, and I wanted to make it a blog for everyone, where we will come and share ideas and contribute and just generally have halal fun while garnering knowledge. Now imagine my little disappointment when I see that people are reluctant to comment. *sad face. You will observe that the blog is not yet monetized, but I want to hear from you, I want your feedback, observations and constructive criticisms, I want us to discuss.

In my first post welcoming you to this blog, I said that this is OUR blog... but you seem to have left me to it! I checked my stats the other day and I saw that I have had over a thousand page views, For real????!!!! And I only had only 37 comments in total. I know it may be tasking, and I may be asking for a lot, but please I want to hear from you, bombard the comment box, give me your ideas, send your questions, answer the quizzes, send your articles, tell everyone about the blog! At least this one is ours and we will take it to heights unattained! In sha Allah.

Hence I beseech you and I sincerely trust that you will always take out time to comment and share my posts! May Allah bless you and have mercy on you. Ameen.
Jazakallahu khairan jaza'a.

Salam aleykum, please is it permissible for a menstruating woman to touch the Quran? My roommate and I were arguing, I told her no, but she said there is one hadith where the prophet SAW asked Aisha RA to pick something from the mosque. Thank you.

ZAKAT; DO YOU PAY??

Do you know that paying the zakat is incumbent on those who are able, and it's one of the fundamental pillars of Islam?. I observed that this pillar is least popular among all the pillars and this is not supposed to be so. To some, the principles surrounding paying the zakat and calculating It is cumbersome, I have therefore set out to simplify it as much as possible. I do hope at the end of this piece you'll find it easy understanding zakat. In sha Allah.

DO YOU BATH?

I wish I posted this earlier, been a Friday, but all well and good, you can always bookmark it for further reference.

That's a very catchy title quite alright, but it's very apt. I am referring to the complete bathing, Ghusl. I have read different versions of how this bath should be had, the question now is, do we bath? In the real Sense of the word.. are we performing ghusl the way we should? How did the sunnah ask us to perform the Ghusl? I dusted my bookshelf and retrieved my copy of Dr. Abdulazeem Badawi's. Concise presentation of the Fiqh of the Sunnah and the Noble Book, page 60 contains detailed explanation of the prophet's manner of performing the Ghusl.

FROM MY MAILBOX- SHOULD I REMOVE THE HIJAB

Salam aleykum Umm. My name is Salma and I stay in Lagos. I came across your blog just yesterday. I want you and your readers to give their opinion on a matter. I just got a job after a few years of graduation. Unfortunately for me, my employer is asking me to desist from coming to the office with my hijab. In as much as I don't want to compromise my faith, I always remember how hard and long it took me to get this job. I am confused. Should I abide till I am able to convince them that the hijab will not prevent me from working optimally? Or should I forget about the job? Thank you.

THE EVIL EYE II

Salam aleykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuh.

I plegded to make a post on how we can protect ourselves as Muslims from the evil eye And it's dangerous manifestations. Before going into details I will first like to remind us that remembrance of Allah SWT is key to any success, key to any protection, it is the key to a better life and better living. If we are constantly in a state of dhikr and dua, Ash shaytan rajeem will not be able to penetrate us or our families. In sha Allah.

Remembrance of Allah can take several forms, recitation of the Quran, reciting exultation of Allah, the aim is to be constantly conscious of Allah.

Alhamdulilah, it is stated in Q17:82, 'We have revealed in the Quran cure and compassion for the believers '

Quranic Prescription
One can constantly recite suratul ikhlas, falaq, Nas, Amana Rasul and Ayat Qursiy

Prophetic prescription

THE EVIL EYE

Salam aleykum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh

Have you heard about the evil eye? It has been subject to many dissentions and controversies. I do not know what you believe, but there are sufficient evidence which point to the existence of the evil eye. It is recorded by Al-Bukhari that Ibn Abass reported the prophetic tradition where the prophet SAW said that the evil eye is real! If any other thing were to compete with destiny, the evil eye is it(Bukhari). The evil eye can either be of man or of jinn, and Allah SWT has made it possible for them to be capable of causing afflictions with the evil gaze.
